Rememberance Sunday

I think of Rememberance Sunday of my dad (he died young) and he always to used to go to the Cenotaph to remember fallen Comrades in WW2.

He was a Captain and a member of the Royal Artillery (A Desert Rat) and fought in the Eighth Army and the 1st Army. He was in North Africa, Sicily (where he got shot twice) and Iceland.

My father, like many soldiers, didn’t tell their families what they did or what happened.  Though I wanted him to tell about this, I suppose l left it up to him. Now he is no longer here, the stories have remained with him. The ‘historian’ in me, wishes this was not the case. People need to know what happened.  We learn from history after all.

Though, being the daughter of a WW2 veteran, I wasn’t taught at school about the war. Incredible really? I went to a convent school in Sundridge where it was more important to learn stuff about the old testament than stuff relating to history that our families can actually remember. So I have had to read up on the world wars from books, though to be honest, I prefer WW1.

My favourite WW1 book has to be ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, an incredible book. In WW1 my grandfather was a Major and I don’t know anything about what he did although I did get some medal records from the National Archives, it doesn’t say that much other that he earned it in France.

I just wish I knew more.

Scrapbook On Obama

pict0123

Because it is a such a important part of history, I thought I would start a scrapbook on Obama and have some interesting cartoons, stories and pictures to go into it. How sad, oh what the hell?!

So, if I am ever run down by a bus, future generations can look at it and feel they are ‘living history’ as they read the scrapbook, with my comments. I have never done a political scrapbook before!

I like to think of it as a ‘celebration that Bush is out’.

I hope to see the film W soon!

It’s quite easy for me to be a scrapbook-o-holic though.

My Favourite Words of Wisdom

I have a number of Wisdom books and I find them very inspiring.  Every so often I ought to read more, think about and an add them to my blog. I like to find some words that really mean something to me.

“Always be aware of the Consequences”

I like this one because everything I do, has a consequence and if I am in a rush or perhaps ‘in a mood’ they’re forgotten! Just remembering this, will try and keep me in check! Well, at least some of the time.

Congratulations to fellow Buddhist ‘Buddhist Spokesmonk’ for winning another Blogging Award. I am not surprised. Hope to read more. To be honest, I have been blogging up to my ears and it is has only been today when I have had a chance to read it.

10 November 2008 – My Apple Tree

I am going to build a historical record of my tree for years and see what happens and take photos every so often, perhaps every month.

Tonbridge Cyberart

This is a picture of Tonbridge by the The Great Bridge. I love it, with all the lamps and mish mash of buildings.  The colours have worked out very well. I hope to make these as Christmas Cards this year.

Blogging

Yesterday I had to admit to cutting down on some of my blogs, so I can concentrate on other stuff, such as art, photography, reading and doing up the garden.  Even playing the piano. In life, we have so much to do and though I enjoy blogging, often there is no ‘end result’, hence I need to improve my brain cells and get more creative again. If I have done my creative stuff, well, then it’s safe to blog!

I am a bit wary of being strapped to a computer all my life.

Article .. and Local Fame

I have an article coming up and I will be plastered all over the town. Fortunately, I have met someone who doesn’t read the magazine so hopefully no one else will read it! Still, it is better to be known ‘for yourself’ instead of being in a role you aren’t suited to like in some ‘work role’. The article is about citizen journalism.

Hello & Welcome to my Rambling Blog

This is my 9th blog! They keep cropping up like Japanese Knotweed don’t they? I thought I would have a

personal blog commenting about news in the media that makes me happy or grumpy, or begs me to ask,

Why? It is a kind of miscellaneous blog. Some of the other blogs rabbit on about cycling, life on the treadmill, cooking, poetry, my journalism articles or books and well, I just want a blog I can ramble on about other stuff that grabs me at the time.

When I bump into people sometimes they give me their website and because I know them, perhaps ‘online’ or other places, I may as well stick them on my website.. to keep an eye on their shannigans.

So firstly, I have put two links on here.. one by one of my Favourite Buddhist monks, we met online on a journalist site and one by Dave, a local Tonbridge ite who goes on about motorcycling and is good at animation.

One of the first things I have to work on, is a piccy to get rid of the old books on this site.. hmm!
